Helloo folks,
With Spiral’s release getting close, we are back on the blog with a slew of new blog posts! For today’s post, we wanted to talk all about how memories work in Spiral!
In Spiral, the main thing you’ll be doing is experiencing the memories from Bernard’s past. But what does this actually look like?
Let’s get into it!
EXPLORING THE SPIRAL STAIRCASE
Early on in the game, you’ll find yourself on a spiral staircase with various doors waiting to be explored along the way. Each door represents a different memory of Bernard’s while the staircase itself represents the state of his mind.
EXPERIENCING THE PASSING OF TIME
Through each memory you enter, you’ll be able to better understand Bernard as a character. You’ll get to see him grow up by playing him at different ages and the characters around him will age too, meaning you won’t just see how Bernard’s life changes throughout the year but also everyone around him!
THE UNRELIABLE NARRATOR
As the game progresses, you’ll see the effects of Bernard’s cognitive degeneration become increasingly more present. Not only will it affect how we see memories, you’ll also feel it in the music and gameplay — but the thing most altered? Bernard’s storytelling.
While we may not be able to cure Bernard of his disease, exploring thoroughly and interacting with his world early on will help him hold onto details longer. These details can be small (like remembering something a character liked,) or major (like which of the characters was present in a memory).
SECRET MEMORIES
Smaller, shorter memories may also be discoverable once you enter a door (a memory within a memory if you will 😋) but if too much time passes or you never find it before moving onto another door, it’ll be gone forever.
There’s much to learn, discover and explore when it comes to Spiral. Some you might not even catch on your first time journeying with Bernard! But either way, we hope you enjoy learning about everything he has to say!
All our love,
